Sustainimation latest

Section 1 - flood
The flow of the animation needed some work to make the motion more fluid. The items on the shot list made it unfeasible to go back and do more in-betweens because this would be far too time consuming considering many more 2D animations needed to be done. I added motion blur effects to the in-betweens and the animations appear smoother.

Section 2 - drought
lighting and colour alterations added more texture to the animation with motion blur applied to the plant blowing away. This was successful in making the animation appear smoother and interactions with the dancer work well with her arm beckoning thew sun overhead and making the plant grow.

Section 3 - forest fires
Backgrounds need to be more accurately applied to this section with other elements in the foreground. James has been working on keying out the dancer's precise movements. When this is done we can composite the foreground, middle ground etc. how we wish. I need to collect a video of flying embers to interact with what's happening onscreen with lighting changes and to apply more dimensions

Section 4 - conveyor belt
Drawing and arranging these cogs taught me a lot about After Effects. Particularly about saving my work. With the dancer's foot changing the speed of the cog's spinning, I am thinking about ways the dancer's movement can interact with the animations because it ties the animation into what's really happening. This has been achieved through talking with Sarah, who has greatly helped with key framing and generating ideas.

Moving forward, we are going to have to start pulling our animations together. I have transferred my After Effects file to the Drive to apply more accurate transitions and begin blending each team members contributions.

Music video final changes

Alterations

Some drawn frames stand out because other elements are lit in After Effects. For example the trees which move to the beat need to be set into the background more.

Blotches of paper are visible on some frames. I need to get rid of them using simple choker tool.

Pixel motion blur can also help with the transition between frames.

Some colour alterations needed for the continuity of the film.

The animation style in Jozep uses opacity change and key frames to create motion in a slow but effective way. I utilised this method by key framing dancing motion. The animation was a great success and created motion with a faded trail behind it. This encapsulated the psychedelic themes I wanted to portray as the character also shifts in form.

Sustainimation latest

Latest In-betweens:

WWW
through keying, I animate the scenes using TV paint for frame by frame animation and transitions and lighting in After Effects
Lighting looks good depicting pollution with grey, water with blue
Interactions with the plant and dancer are smooth and obvious that there is a connection

EBI
For smoother animation the gap between frames must be smaller (currently down in 5's which I will add in-betweens for to make parts more fluid).
Some motion with water could apply the principles of animation more
A solution musty be found for compositing animation behind the dancer. The next scene presents trees which will need a sense of foreground, middle ground and background

Referring to the shot list, my responsibilities are first to get polished frames and colouring done. It is pressing that more in-betweens are done for more scenes for the sake of continuity as they will be jumbled with collaged imagery. Proceeding, I need to go back and make the completed animations smoother and then more on to polished animations further on in the film. Furthermore, we have decided to cut the video we are using short. There was another section of music we haven't planned for but we have decided it is non essential for the story arc we have made so we cut it.

In-betweens for Sustainimation

Interactive 2D animation over live action footage:

WWW
Motion animated well over the footage with interactions shown to bridge together animation and live action
Keying elements into the animation adds realism and opacity means the dancer can be seen behind the water

EBI
gaps in the colouring can be seen where the green hasn't been properly coloured
Some more in-between frames needed

Music video transition testing

Transitions Test

Between the animations of different faces contorting, there were gaps between each different one which wasn't easy on the eye. adding upward shots of trees manipulated slightly in photoshop created a form of static screen between each animation to create transitions between them. It works well visually.

For these transitions, I believe an audio cue should be added to place them in better such as the sound of static. I believe that it will place the sound and image together temporally.

Extra Animation + Lights

Using more pictures of transitioning nature. I have made nice backdrops for my theme. Laying animations over with lighting sets the animations in. I may tweak the colours to make them pop out more.
