Sustainable fashion project

Me and James managed to get access to the studio where the projection mapping will hopefully take place. We tested out the projector which, as the space is so large, loses quality when attempting to fill the whole back wall. Therefore we have been looking into renting a higher quality projector with more lumens so quality can be the best it can.

Measuring the windows was also a task we had to do as we will need to cover them. As the shapes of the windows make the space more dynamic, we ideally need to project on them which is not possible on the glass. Therefore if we pull through with the finalised project, a ladder will also be needed!

SUSTAINIMATION mood storyboard

These illustrations demonstrate imagery and colour for my group project. As we begin to map out the events happening in the duration of our electronic music projection mapping project, we have been figuring out how to promote sustainability with our projections in a way that our dancer, Marina can interact and boost the said message.

Issues we may face with projecting is foreground and background. In 2D we will map out what occurs where on stage but items in the foreground will need a surface to project onto. As we continue to make key frames and flesh out the animation we will consider solutions to this issue.

We may also demonstrate different ecosystems with a textiles theme in mind. In a section that occurs underwater, we had the idea of depicting swimming clothes or plastic like fish to show how overarching pollution is in the sea. I have also represented textile style animals to boost the message that sustainable fabrics help species to survive.

Me and James discussed what to depict in the windows of our space. One such idea we had was to show the eyes of various animals as a spectral presence within the an emotion. Much like the eyes in Great Gatsby, something like a tiger's eye watching over the destruction of it's world will make the film emotive.

Custom Slipmats inspiration

This clip form burning man festival represents stroboscopic disk style animation on a large scale. It could shed light onto how to make these animations visible to the naked eye. I am working on bringing the equation of how to achieve this to life. This needs to be tested in the coming weeks.

SCOOP social media posts

The next SCOOP post was looking for volunteers and I opted for a light hearted approach. Personifying food is an easily digestible approach to recruiting people. I took influence from the WW1 propaganda with the finger pointed at the viewer without any other war related references.

The second image is also for recruitment of volunteers. The cupped hands is a symbol of the gentleness we need to treat our world with and as the images progress more hands will collect and build a sense of community.

The colour scheme is strictly the 3 colours demonstrated so I need to continue to find inventive ways to make the images exciting while sticking to the brand.

The next post was a call for Litter pickers around the Leeds area. In light of this design I have been contacted by Scoop from the source of the business in Durham. I have been offered a wider role in their community to create graphics for more of their social media pages. I have not yet decided as I want to be able to manage my workload.

MUSIC VIDEO still

 I am exhausted.

I will continue

KEJNU - PHOTONS

Aesthetically I have been inspired by this video from the colours and themes used to the lighting choices. Similarly to my project it includes events happening on a microscopic level. I think the way they have used stop motion to depict wriggling bacteria looking beings works really well. I drew similarities with this and the parasitic being in my video. It has reminded me to maintain a flare and glow to my video which I will achieve through the fluorescent colour and lighting in after effects.

MUSIC VIDEO so far

I have begun to compost together my hand drawn animations to get a feel of the aesthetic of my animated psy trance video. To create smooth animations, the frames need to be compiled with a great deal of care. I need to work on the clarity of movement as some of the scenes are still a little shaky when transmitting from frame to frame. However, mostly I am satisfied with the traditional aesthetic of the film. I hope that with the improvement of my hand drawn animations that I can get more ambitious with what I illustrate. My production process involves adding animated mushrooms and other psychedelic content, allowing for further wackiness within the animations. Colour has been quite important in the making of this film as well. Transitions from bright greens to orange to yellow work well and promote the themes of fungus which I am trying to convey.

CUSTOM SLIPMAT COMMISSIONS

This is a 60 frame animated Slipmats which is yet to be tested on a turntable. If the maths is right on the previously mentioned equation, the animation, which represents an MRI scan should be slow in movement as 40 frames is supposedly the rate at which to make the animation still at a speed of 45 rpm. On the spinning video below, the movement is quite clear but needs to be tested in reality.

A commission for a Slipmat and album cover from an independent podcasting social media page. I was asked to do an eclectic mix of different musicians so included Curt Cobain, Erykah Badu, Miles Davis, Skream and MF Doom. Each commission seems to be getting me more commissions so I am confident that the business will grow.

Continuing with my investigation, behold my 40 frame animation which should assist in the optical illusion of stroboscopic disks at 45 rpm. I am being sent a demo Slipmat to test how it works. Working on this hand drawn run cycle was challenging with many details. The animation could certainly have been smoother: The back arm movement is a bit all over the place but has assisted my knowledge of anatomical drawing with no reference.

_GASART_ ONLINE STORE

In collaboration with the webpage I used to distribute the first few slip-mat commissions, I have set up an online store with the hope of reaching a wider market of people. There were many aspects to consider when setting this up. Firstly I enquired about what rights they would have over my work. It turns out they do not have any which is good should I wish to distribute my designs by other means in the future. However they do take 50% commission which for now isn't an issue, especially as being on a website will mean reaching more people. The mostly graphic designs will be featured on more t-shirts and hoodies soon with animated Slipmats also being made with frequent orders.

The previous issues I had with the animated Slipmats have been somewhat resolved. alongside my research of stroboscopic disks and setting up an online store, I received this equation which supposedly assists with creating live animations visible to the naked eye. I will need to create a 40 frame Slipmats to see how successfully it works when spun. Testing strobes with the spinning mats may also be a way around the issue.

More animated designs will follow.

A boost for my social media profile is provided when customers send in pictures of their home music displays. Featuring the custom designs is a great way of marketing.

SCOOP Social Media Graphics

The Social media page for the Leeds branch of SCOOP has commenced prior to the opening of their shop. First they will be retailing dry foods with zero waste. As an extension to their main logo, I have created short animations to loop on their social media. The spinning globe being delicately held up by a pair of hands resembles the care we must all take in the healing process of our world. Ideas of unity will follow in future posts to continue building support and members of the SCOOP community. Following this, I will be designing weekly updates for their social media with graphics and short animations. These are voluntary commissions to show my support for their ethos and gain exposure through the wider community they have in other University cities.
